I am an independent health science journalist and a palliative care physician. I spent over a decade leading the Division of Palliative Medicine at Stony Brook Medicine (2007–2019). Since 2019, I have worked as a consultant for the National Center for Equitable Care for Elders at Harvard University, focusing on palliative care policy and education.

My pieces have appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Boston Globe, AEON, Next Avenue, and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
